Santa Claus Is Coming To Town – Jackson 5

You know Christmas has truly arrived when you hear ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ on the radio, and who doesn't want to hear about the jolly man in red paying them a visit. Although there are many different versions, it’s the Jackson 5’s version that we feel is the best to really kick off the holiday season, just remember “ He’s gonna find out who’s naughty and nice”.

Fairytale of New York – The Pogues

This Christmas anthem tells of love, lost opportunities and hope, all to a New York City backdrop. The combination of Shane MacGowan’s out of tune raspy vocals, Kirsty MacColl’s Irish twang and a folk backing band have helped secure the Fairytale of New York as one of the most unmistakable Christmas songs.  Despite the somber lyrics and blasphemy, there still something about ‘Fairy Tale of New York’ that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

White Christmas – Bing Crosby

It wouldn’t be Christmas without hearing Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’. Written in 1941 by Irving Berlin, White Christmas is actually the biggest selling single of all time according to Guinness World Records, with estimated sales of over 50 million copies. Although there are countless versions, it was the original version by Bing that really put the song on the map, now all we need is for Frosty the snowman to send some snow our way!

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday – Wizzard

With tinsel, crackers and presents galore, who doesn’t wish it could be Christmas everyday? Glam Rock band Wizzard summed it up perfectly with their 1973 hit, ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’. The track is even more vibrant than the band’s dress sense and the perfect tune to kick off the work Christmas party.

All I Want for Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey

Our favourite holiday hit has got to be ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, the up-tempo jingle, has everything you need to spread the holiday cheer. Although it’s not the best selling Christmas song of all time, there’s something about the combination of Mariah’s voice, sleigh bells and uplifting holiday spirit that makes the song, no matter how many times it comes on the juke box, an undeniable Christmas classic. Check out party band for hire, City Soul's performance of this classical christmas hit!

We hope you like our top 5 Christmas Songs, we have put together a Spotify playlist of these hits (and many more!) to help you get in the Christmas spirit!
