Transatlantic Talent

New York City and London are two of the biggest names in music, so when the two collaborate you would expect something special right? - We present for you, the transatlantic songwriting duo, Anderson & Petty.

Anderson & Petty: You Are Home

Barry Anderson (NYC) and Mark Petty (LDN) met in 2010, and by May 2011 they were putting on a concert to showcase their songs at the legendary Duplex cabaret theatre in New York City… Quick movers! Now, they are promoting their songbook album ‘You Are Home: The Songs of Anderson & Petty’ which was released in December 2013.

We were lucky enough to catch them at the St. James Studio in London this month, where a cast of ridiculously talented singers performed songs from their album. The cast included:

Matthew Barrow, Edward Baruwa, Kieran Brown, Nadine Cox, Andy Coxon, Chris Howell, Kim Ismay, Sophie Issacs, Laura Main, Gloria Onitiri, Sophia Ragavelas, Charlotte Wakefield and Jacinta Whyte.

It is very easy to find talent in London, but to find so much on such a small stage is a rarity.

Unfortunately footage of the concert has not yet been released, but here is one of our own Whitby St. Cabaret girls, Ceili O’Connor, performing one of their songs – ‘Superman’. On the album it is sung by America's own Autumn Hurlbert who is best known for her role in Legally Blonde on Broadway, however we think that our UK girl (who is currently on tour with Evita) holds her own!

Whitby St. Cabaret are available to hire for weddings & parties, and are currently working on their next corporate event for top insurance firm - Canopius. Last year they put on a night of ‘Chicago’ at the Lounge Lover in Shoreditch, click here to read more about this event.

The Album

Whilst the cast of their concert at the St. James Studio was for one night only, those savvy audience members who chose to purchase the album will have been greeted by yet another group of amazing individuals, breathing a different life into the music of Anderson & Petty.

As well as bringing two fantastic composers together from either sides of the pond, it also unites a selection of amazing talent – 9 performers from the U.S and 7 from the U.K.

U.S. performers featured on the album are:

Jen Burleigh-Bentz (Mamma Mia), Brent Michael DiRoma (Avenue Q nat’l tour), Josh Franklin (Anything Goes), Natalie Gallo (Jersey Boys), Autumn Hurlbert (Legally Blonde), Jason Kappus (American Idiot), Jonathan Rayson (Because of Winn-Dixie), Coleen Sexton (Jekyll & Hyde), and Lucia Spina (Kinky Boots).

U.K. performers are:

Matthew Barrow (Merrily We Roll Along), Gina Beck (Wicked), Kieran Brown (Love Never Dies), Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple, I Can’t Sing – The X-Factor Musical), Debbie Kurup (Olivier Award nominee – The Bodyguard), Sophia Ragavelas (Les Miserables), and Tony Award winner Frances Ruffelle (Les Miserables).

One of the standout performances for us is ‘Suddenly’, which features Cynthia Erivo who is currently a lead in the new West-End musical ‘I Can’t Sing’… needless to say, she can. Click here to listen on iTunes.

Anderson & Petty are now planning a concert that will take place in New York in August. If you would like to learn more about them please visit their website at www.andersonandpetty.com.
